Haji Latif Sssebagala Ssengendo, the Kawempe South Member of parliament and the Imam of Parliament, has tasked government to explain the security situation in the country.

In a statement on behalf of the Muslim Parliamentary Caucus following the assassination of the Arua Municipality MP, Ibrahim Abiriga, Sssebagala, says the murder comes at a time government is yet to make known its findings on the previous murders in the country.

Unidentified gunmen riding on a motorcycle gunned down Abiriga together with his bodyguard, Saidi Buga last night as they were heading to the legislators home in Matugga in Wakiso district.

“We have to swallow our pride and admit that none of us is safe and fix what has gone wrong! We now live in a country where kidnaps and murder have become the order of the day,” reads Sssebagala's statement.

Adding that, “We demand a clear explanation from the state about the security situation in the country and the way forward before none of us will be there to defend our generation and that to come.”

He said Abiriga will be remembered as a practicing Muslim with whom they always prayed in the parliamentary mosque. “Despite our divergent political views Hon Abiriga was always jolly and welcoming and we always joked about the time he wore his yellow attire and I was clad in my red "togikwaatako" combat,” Ssebagala said.

Adding that, “Hon Abiriga has been  murdered on a Friday just before breaking his fast and in the holy month of Ramadhan, May the Almighty Allah accept all his good deeds and forgive him where he went wrong and reward him paradise(Jjana)”.
