Lutukumoi however, says he was convinced to return to his party after the grand DP reunion on August 3, 2018 because the party leaders have taken laudable steps to address the trivial conflicts that had always bedeviled Ugandas oldest party. He told URN in an email that as he waits to make an official return to DP, his heart; mind and soul have never left the party despite joining government.
Former Democratic Party (DP) Spokesperson, Mwaka Emmanuel Lutukumoi
Emmanuel Mwaka Lutukumoi, the former Democratic Party spokesperson is planning to bounce back to his party.
Lutukumoi defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party in 2011, saying he was rebranding and had found a new home in NRM.
He however, said it was a painful decision to defect from his party given his image, philosophies and principles that he had built from childhood.
Lutukumoi explained that he had personal problems with the politics of DP that was characterized by intrigue and conflicts that hurt him leading to his defeat in the Gulu Municipality MP elections in 2011 to an FDC candidate because he did not have support from other DP members even after winning in primaries.
He accused the party leadership of failing to do enough to reconcile the warring parties, which forced several party loyalists to exit. Lutukumoi however, says he was convinced to return to his party after the grand DP reunion on August 3, 2018 because the party leaders have taken laudable steps to address the trivial conflicts that had always bedeviled Uganda's oldest party.
He told URN in an email that as he waits to make an official return to DP, his heart; mind and soul have never left the party despite joining government. Lutukumoi said he never surrendered his party card nor gave it to anybody after crossing to NRM in July, 2011.
He said he is optimistic that the strategies designed to bring all warring party factions together during the reunion will stand the test of time and strengthen DP. Lutukumoi served as Deputy and full Lira Resident District Commissioner between 2014 and 2016.
He was transferred Kitgum district as deputy RDC in 2016 but quit the position shortly after to pursue further studies in USA. On June 15, 2018, President Museveni reappointed Lutukumoi Lira RDC but he declined to take up the appointment.
