Koomu Ignatius Kiwanuka the LC 5 Chairperson of Nakaseke district says that the wooden signposts can serve the required time of two years for accountability and they are not vandalized like metallic signposts.
Nakaseke district has resolved to stop erecting metallic signposts along the roads over rampant vandalism.
The government requires that for each project or road
constructed, districts are supposed to erect signposts with details of
funds utilized, funders, the scope of work and contractors among others.
However, in Nakaseke, several metallic signposts erected especially
along the constructed roads have been stolen a few months before works are completed.
Among the recently vandalized sign posts were erected along
the roads that include Kasagga-Nkuzongere , Kalagala-Semuto, Lugogo-Timuna and
Mityomere-Kabubbu among others.
Benjamin Makanga the District Secretary for works explains
that vandalism leads to losses of at least 600,000 shillings for each signpost.
Makanga says that the auditors have also been faulting the
district over failure to account before the public yet they erect signposts
along the roads but are vandalized.
Makanga says that as result the district council sitting on
Thursday approved a motion to opt for wooden signposts because they are cheap.
