The Deputy Resident City Commissioner of Nakawa Division Herbert Anderson Burora has said that they are failing to enforce COVID-19 restrictions on Boda Boda cyclists.

According to the government COVID-19 guidelines, the Motorcycles were banned from carrying passengers because of the proximity between the driver and passengers. However, they were allowed to carry luggage.

However, Burora says the cyclists are desperate to carry passengers to earn a living.

Burora says that during a Division security committee meeting it was agreed that the Ministry of Health releases Standard Operating Procedures for Boda Bodas and come out clearly how the situation can be handled if Boda Boda cyclists continue operating only as providers of delivery services.

Since March, hundreds of Boda Bodas were impounded for defying the President’s COVID-19 directives.  However, in n May, President Museveni ordered the police to release motorcycles that were impounded. He also extended the working time for Boda Bodas from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm.
