Namalere Police Post Closed After COVID-19 Scare

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango has told URN that the police post has been officially shut down, pending a disinfection exercise. He added that police is equally waiting for the results of the suspected officers, before taking further action.

Namalere Police Post in Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District has been closed after some of its staff presented signs of COVID-19. The Ministry of Health has since picked up the suspected cases, who include, the Officer in Charge of the post, among others, and put them in quarantine while awaiting their test results.

But a cross-section of residents says that the OC and other police officers had interacted with a number of residents and bodaboda riders who have since not been subjected to COVID-19 testing. They have appealed to the Ministry of Health to trace the contacts in order to save the situation, in the event that the officers test positive for COVID-19

However, Ssekyanda Fred Kiwanuka, the LCI chairman of Kaabaganda Village, Namalere parish in Kiteezi, Kasangati town council urges the police force to act fast and replace the affected officers, adding that criminals are now taking advantage of the loophole to cause mayhem.

Onyango has advised the residents to utilize services from nearby police stations while waiting for the police post to be disinfected. He added that the Kasangati District Police Commander has been tasked to enhance routine police patrols in order to bridge the gap brought about by the Namalere post closure.
