Councillors of Nansana Municipality on Tuesday stormed the office
of the Town Clerk Ambrose Atwoko.
The angry councillors carrying placards called for the
transfer of the Atwoko who has spent one year in the office. They accused him
of among other issues misappropriating finances and incompetence.
Led by the municipal speaker Moses Kalungi, the councillors claim that Atwoko
has several times acted contrary to the decisions of the council which has led
to poor service delivery.

Atwoko who had locked himself inside his
office was rescued by the police who took him out through the back door to a
waiting car. However, when the councillors noticed he was fleeing, they tried
to pull him out of the car in vain.
Balinnya Kivumbi, councillor representing Gombe division, observes that they
had allocated over 380 million shillings for the physical planning of Busukuma
and Gombe Divisions to control development of slum but up-to-date nothing has
taken place.
Kivumbi also questions the 120 million shillings which has been spent on planting
grass along Hoima road saying the figures might have been inflated.

Grace Natege claims that the Town Clerk has been conniving with the Mayor
Regina Bakitte to swindle taxpayers’ money. She alleges that much of the funds are
diverted to foreign trips.
Natege also alleges that they have information indicating that
last year the Mayor and other two individuals used over 18.5 million shillings
each on a two-day visit in Rwanda.

However,
Bakitte refuted the claims saying that the politicians are influencing some
technocrats to tarnish her name.
