The National Council of Sports has flagged off Jennifer Nyakato, Uganda’s representative at the forthcoming Poland World Deaf Championship.  She will depart the country around 11 pm this evening aboard Emirates Air together with her coach Faustine Kiwa.

The championship is scheduled to kick off on August 23rd, 2021 in the Polish city of Lublin. Nyakato will take part in the 800M, which is her area of expertise and the 1500M race. Nyakato who is sponsored by the Uganda Athletics Federation will enter the games with a pedigree of holding the Africa record in the 800M race, which she broke in the Africa Deaf Athletics Championships in 2019 where she posted 2:08:3 seconds and won gold.

This was her first international championship to register a notable medal after outsprinting Ethiopia’s Rega Asnaku who came second in 2 minutes and 10.7 seconds. The athlete hopes to build from that triumph and win another medal in the Poland events. Speaking through her interpreter, Nyakato said she is hoping to bring another medal to the country since she has prepared well for the games.
