NDA Closes Illegal Veterinary Drug Shops in Rwenzori Region

During an operation conducted in the districts of Bundibugyo, Bunyangabu, Ntoroko, Kabarole, Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo, Mityana, Kasanda and Mubende, NDA also has impounded 25 boxes of veterinary medicines estimated at 53.7 Million Shillings.

The National Drug Authority- NDA has closed 21 illegal veterinary drug and agro-chemicals shops in the Rwenzori region.

During an operation conducted in the districts of Bundibugyo, Bunyangabu, Ntoroko, Kabarole, Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo, Mityana, Kasanda and Mubende, NDA also has impounded 25 boxes of veterinary medicines estimated at 53.7 Million Shillings.

Samuel Kyomukana, the NDA regulatory officer says that during their operations, they observed absenteeism the in-charges of the drug outlets, unqualified personnel, and shops illegally selling veterinary products while several districts lack proper and functional storage facilities for drugs.

Chris Luzinda, the NDA Western Region Manager said they have engaged the owners of the drug outlets to streamline their operations before they are allowed to re-open. He added that they have interested police in investigating some of the cases.

Vincent Twesige the Rwenzori West Police Spokesperson, however, appealed to NDA to engage the police to ensure all identified persons and shops are monitored before they re-open.

The owners of the drug shops have given time to comply with the operating guidelines or be permanently closed.
