The National Drug
Authority-NDA has arrested two people in an operation against the theft of
government drugs and illegal sale of drugs in West Nile region.
In an eleven day’s
operations that was concluded over the weekend covering nine districts in the
region, NDA inspectors inspected 434 drugs outlets.
The team recovered
171boxes of assorted
government and prohibited drugs estimated at over Shillings 42million and are currently
lying in the NDA offices in Arua.
Together with police
officers from Nebbi Central Police Station, NDA also arrested two people for
dealing in the illegal sale of government drugs and other medical supplies.
The suspects
identified as Mary Ozelle 53 years and her S.3 Daughter, Anirworth Loyce 19
years of Kondo village Erussi Sub County Nebbi district were picked up with an
assortment of government and smuggled drugs in their drug shop following a tip
off.
The suspects were
found in possession of TB drugs, 10 tins of Amoxicillin, Microscope and other
assorted medicines clearly labelled GOU Not for sale estimated at Shillings 35million. The suspects have been charged with unlawful possession of classified drugs and
carrying out business of a Pharmacist without a license under SD Ref.
42/10/6/2021.
Emmanuel Umirambe, the
Regional Manager NDA West Nile, says they also seized smuggled drugs like Super
Appetite from DR Congo from the suspect’s drug shop.

Robert Abak, the Nebbi
Resident District Commissioner commended NDA for the operation and arrest of
the two suspect, saying that it will serve as a deterrent to others.

Emmanuel Orombi, the
Nebbi District LC 5 chairperson, said drug theft has remained a big challenge
in Nebbi district, adding that they have now mapped the key areas where drug
theft is high.
He says that they have removed some of the implicated health
workers from the payroll on advice from the Solicitor general.
