Nebbi Catholic Diocese Gears up for Scientific Consecration, Installation of New Bishop

Preparations are in top gear in Nebbi Catholic Diocese for the consecration and installation of the new Bishop Reverend Raphael p’Mony Wokorach. The position became vacant on November 23rd, 2018 following the transfer of Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok to Lira Catholic Diocese. 

On March 31st, 2021, Pope Francis appointed Rev. Fr. Raphael p’Mony WOKORACH, a Comboni missionary based in Nairobi as the new Bishop of Nebbi Diocese. His consecration and installation that was scheduled for June 26th, 2021 at Nebbi Catholic Cathedral suffered a setback due to the second wave of COVID-19, which prompted the government to suspend all public gatherings. 

As a result, Apostolic Nunciature, Luigi Bianco postponed the event to a later date. Following the partial suspension of the lockdown, the consecration is has been scheduled for this Saturday, August 14th 2021 at Nebbi Catholic Cathedral. Fr. He, however, says that only a few invited people will attend the event.

The news of the consecration has excited some Christians in the Diocese. Christopher

Ongom, the Secretary of Nebbi Catholic Parish Pastoral Council, says that Christians

have eagerly been waiting for another day for the occasion.

Daniel Udaga, the chairperson of Nebbi Cathedral Parish St. Dominic Choir, says that although they will not all be involved in the animation of the Holy Mass and will follow the event on social media platforms, they are equally excited.

Rev. Fr. Raphael p’Mony Wokorach was born on January 21, 1961, in Arua district. At the time of his appointment, he had worked in Nairobi, Kenya, as Formator in the Theologate and lecturer at Tangaza University College where he served for several years as Chair of the Governing Council of the College; Vice Provincial of the Kenyan Province from 2011-2013. 

Between 2015 and 2018, Fr. Raphael became an Apostolic Visitor for the Institute of the Apostles of Jesus. On June 21, 2018, the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life appointed him Pontifical Commissary for the same Institute of the Apostles of Jesus.
