Serere Police are holding 19-year-old Max Emmanuel Okiring in connection to the death of his uncle and retired headteacher, Francis Esiaru and his wife, Gabudesia Ikwam. The duo was found dead in their home in Adoku Village Olio Sub County in Serere district last Saturday.

Neighbours discovered the death of Esiaru, 87, and Ikwam, 78 when they failed to come out of the house as usual. They informed the village chairperson, David Oyara Otim, who in turn reported the matter to the police.

It was later discovered that the couple had died of strangulation and made to appear like they had committed suicide by tying a rope around their necks. Oscar Gregg Ageca, the East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman, says they have arrested Okiring, a nephew to the deceased headteacher who had fled to Kampala following the incident.

He explains that after receiving clues from the family and community members, the police started tracking Okiring until his arrest on Wednesday.
