New Central Busoga Bishop Installed

Right Reverend Patrick Wakula, the bishop of the newly created diocese of Central Busoga has been installed today.

Archbishop Stanley Ntagali of the Church of Uganda, who presided over the ceremony, has asked the new bishop to pay more attention to the vulnerable people especially children, women and the elderly. 

Central Busoga with its headquarters at All Saints Pro-Cathedral in Iganga district, becomes the 36th diocese of the Church of of the Province of Uganda.

Archbishop Ntagali reminded Bishop Wakula that he had joined their team as a shepherd and therefore asked him to mind the way he behaves because society will be looking up to him.

Right Reverend Paul Naimanhye, the Bishop of Busoga Diocese which birthed Central Busoga, pledged support to Bishop Wakula in his work.

Bishop Wakula promised to work with government in implementing programs especially health and education. He noted that he will employ a holistic approach in his leadership through working closely with both the Diocesan Synod and Council to build functional and effective units and departments.

The day's preacher, Dr. Stephen Mugalu, the bishop of Mityana Diocese, asked Bishop Wakula to work tirelessly so that the diocese can have a spiritual impact on Christians.

On August 24th, the House of Bishops elected Reverend Wakula as Bishop of Central Busoga, a diocese that was curved out of Busoga this year.

Before becoming bishop, he served as the Archdeacon of Jinja Archdeaconry and Vicar of St. James Parish, Jinja, in Busoga Diocese. Previously, he served as Archdeacon of Kaliro Archdeaoncry and Vicar of Mbulamuti Parish, Kamuli Archdeaconry.

He has served on numerous school Boards and Management Committees as well as Diocesan committees.

Bishop Wakula was ordained a deacon in 1995 and a priest in 1997 in Busoga Diocese.

He holds a Bachelor of Education degree from Makerere University, a Diploma in Secondary Education from Kyambogo Institute of Education and a Diploma in Theology from Bishop Barham Divinity College, Kabale.
