Aggrey Mushabe, the newly sworn-in LC
III Chairperson of Kagongo Division in Ibanda Municipality has perished in a
motor accident.
Mushabe died on Monday morning on
his way to Ruhoko Health Center III. The
accident occurred around 11:00 Am along Kashuku road in Ibanda Municipality.
Dickson Bagonza, an eyewitness, says Mushabe was hit by a speeding FUSO truck
registration number UAY 479S as he tried to cross the road.

Denis Akabigumira, a student at
Ibanda University, says the place where Mushabe was hit is a dangerous
spot that has claimed the lives of many people and left many others nursing
injuries. He wants the leaders to install traffic lights or zebra crossing around
the area.
Frank Karemera, another eyewitness
says that much as Mushabe was hit by the truck, he says that his life could
have been saved if he was evacuated immediately. The postmortem from Ruhoko
Health center shows that Mushabe succumbed to head injuries.
The Ibanda District Police Commander, Emilly Angomoku says the accident was a
result of human error from both the victim and the truck driver who was speeding.
“We acknowledge that the accident was from both human error and overspeeding
on the side of the truck driver, but we are still investigating the matter,” he
said.
Mushabe will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kashangura 1 Cell,
Kashangura Ward in Kagongo Division. Mushabe defeated John Bosco Bakyenga in
the just concluded elections to become the Chairperson of Kagongo Division.
According
to the police annual crime report, there was a 4.7% reduction in the number of
crashes reported in 2020 from 12,858 crashes reported in 2019 to 12,249 crashes.
