A swimming pool attendant at Nimrod hotel in Luweero district has been arrested over the death of a resident who was last seen at the facility.

The attendant identified as Ignatius Mulya was arrested to explain circumstances surrounding the death of one Enock Ssembuuze, 21, a resident of Kigombe village whose body was found at Lugogo Swamp seven kilometres away from the hotel on January 3.

The deceased’s father Stanley Ssembatya suspects that his son either drowned in the swimming pool, or was strangled, but the body was dumped far away from the hotel to cover up the incident.  Ssembuuze had earlier on gone to Nimrod Hotel, for a swimming session with a few of his colleagues.

Ssembatya adds that the shoes, cap and shirt of the deceased were allegedly recovered at the swimming pool at Nimrod hotel where his colleagues revealed was his last spot before he died.

A post-mortem report dated January 4, 2020, from KCCA Mortuary indicates drowning as the cause of death for the deceased.  It’s based on this that the police arrested Mulya to explain the circumstances surrounding the death and how the body ended up in the wetland, miles away.  He is now detained at Luweero Central Police Station.

The Luweero District Police Commander Ahmed Musakana explains that a friend to the deceased who had earlier been arrested was released after Police found no evidence linking to the death. He adds that his information was only helpful to the investigations leading to the arrest of the attendant.

Swaibu Mubiru, the Manager of Nimrod Hotel confirmed the arrest of his staff but insists that Ssembuuze neither drowned nor died at the hotel. Mubiru alleges that the Police detectives are coercing him to take responsibility and confess that the Ssembuuze died at his swimming pool.

Police have requested for the day’s CCTV footage from the hotel. However, efforts to retrieve it to aid in the investigations were unsuccessful since this was done after 72 hours.
