Nineteen Collapse During Soroti LDU Recruitment Drills

The UPDF medical team had a lot of work picking the youths who fainted along the way and rushing them to Soroti Hospital. A medical worker only identified as Ekochu told URN that they had to administer fast aid to stabilize the youths.

At least 19 youths were admitted at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital after collapsing during the Local Defense Unit-LDU recruitment exercise at Soroti sports ground on Sunday. 

The youths collapsed during the four-kilometre run which was to test their physical fitness. Some of those admitted include Celina Ageto, from Serere, Ocen from Soroti, Sam Okello from Kalaki and Joseph Ejiku from Kaberamaido among others.

Our reporter found a number of injured youths wailing in pain.

Samuel Okiror, one of the youth told URN on his sickbed that he fainted because he was under a lot of pressure to complete the four-kilometre race since they had been told that only the first 50 people will be taken from the four groups.  

 

Capt. Abert Arinaitwe, the 3rd division spokesperson told URN that all the youths who collapsed during the road drill were unfit and automatically eliminated.
