The Masaka regional National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) office is stuck with more than 10,000 unclaimed National Identity cards.

Joseph Kitumba, the Masaka NIRA Office communications officer, says that over 10,234 identity cards have not been collected by the owners despite repeated appeals.

Kitumba says that the owners are still reluctant on collecting the IDs citing long distance from their homes to the regional offices.

He says that the cards will be taken to the registration centres at the sub-county headquarters so that they are easily accessed by the owners.
