Northern Uganda Music Award Celebrates 15th Anniversary

The annual award recognizes talents in Gospel, Hip Hop, MCing and DJing amongst others. It awards talents in forms of Best Music Artist of the Year and the Best Female Artists of the Year amongst others.
The Accolades Which Will Be Given Out To The Winners of The Northern Uganda Music Awards
Northern Uganda Music Awards is celebrating 15 years of existence.

Launched in 2003, the Northern Uganda Music Awards is a Performing Art Platform for promoting local musical talents of music artists in Acholi sub-region.

Okot Juma Jammie, the Chief Executive Officer of Northern Uganda Music Awards says the platform has shaped music production of the sub-region over the past 14 years with recording sponsorship and airplay promotions.

Okot says the platform started from a humble background where the Best Music Artist of the year earned a cash prize of 70,000 shillings. The prize has since increased to one Million Shillings. 

The annual award recognizes talents in Gospel, Hip Hop, MCing and DJing amongst others. It awards talents in forms of Best Music Artist of the Year and the Best Female Artists of the Year amongst others.

Joshua Oduka, the Chief Architect of the Music Award says the platform has groomed many talents by introducing competition among artists to improve on the quality of their productions.

He says the Award celebrates some of the big names in the region as it marks the 15th anniversary.

Grace Atim, the Winner of the 2008 Music Award says the platform has helped many local artists gain national recognition, something many artists yearned for before the award.

James Obalo, the chairperson 2018 Edition says the Award has faced many challenges including complaints from losing artistes which has helped it grow into the region's biggest Music Award.

Obalo says the Award has improved on the way it manages complaints and voting criteria to arrive at the Best Music Artist of the Year in the Competitive Prestigious Music Award. 

Obalo says the winner of this year will win 1 Million shillings alongside an accolade worth 300,000 shillings at the Award Gala Night to be held in Da Link Gardens in Gulu Town.

The first runner-up and the best female artist of the year will each carry 500,000 shillings and accolades.
