The NRM party Returning Officer for Gulu District George Ebola told Uganda Radio Network - URN that this is a requirement for every candidate before picking a nomination form. Ebola asserted that no candidate will be allowed to pick a nomination form before presenting their COVID-19 test results.

James Ocen, the Gulu NRM party chairperson said that this is a directive from the party chairperson, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He added that exercise is also in preparation for the party’s delegates conference scheduled for the August 15, in all districts.

Samuel Oyet Agwani, the NRM Youth Chairperson and National Media Coordinator disclosed that the testing will last until August 11 when picking of nomination forms will also end. He added that it is also right for the party to have all its delegates tested for COVID-19 and ensure aspirants for the 2021 general elections are healthy.

The initiative comes at a time when the NRM party has been accused of defying the COVID-19 guidelines in most of its party activities.
