NRM primaries dragged on until 7pm in various parts of Rakai district on Monday due to late delivery of voting materials. In Kyarurangira, Kachera, Ddwaniro, Lwamagwa and Nangoma sub counties amongst others polling started after 4pm.

As a result, many NRM party members had not yet cast their votes by 5pm when the polling exercise was supposed to close. In distant sub counties such as Lwamaggwa, Kyarurangira, Kachera, Kibanda and Kibale serious voting started at around 4:30pm and went on up to 7pm.

John Tamale, the Rakai District NRM party Registrar says they had no option but to extend the voting time due to late delivery of voting materials. According to Tamale, it would have been unfair to close the polls by 5pm yet many voters had spent the entire day waiting to cast their vote.

Only about half of the 130,000 registered NRM party members in Rakai district are believed to have participated in the polls. Joyce Nanyanzi, a contestant for the NRM party ticket for Kyotera and Kasaali Sub County LC III councilor\'s seat says voter turnout was extremely poor.

According to Nanyanzi, over 200 of her supporters didn\'t participate in the polls due to the confusion that stemmed from late delivery of voting material. She also faults the way the distribution of voting material was handled saying it exposed it to manipulation.

She says NRM party officials were seen distributing the voting materials to polling stations on boda bodas without Police escort. But John Bosco Tamale, the NRM party registrar insists they deployed a Police Officer to provide security during the distribution of the voting material.

The poll results are expected to be announced this morning as tallying had not yet started by 8pm on Monday. The NRM party members were expected to elect flag bearers for LC 3 chairperson\'s seat, municipal councils and Town council councilors.
