National Resistance Movement-NRM party members in 54 villages return to the polls on Thursday to elect a candidate for the LC V chairperson’s seat.

The affected villages are spread in Pallisa town council, Kasodo, Apopongo, Pallisa, Oloki, Pallisa and Akisin Sub-counties.

The fresh elections follow a dispute over the results from the polls conducted on Friday last week.

The Pallisa District NRM party officials have since failed to declare the winner as each of the candidates claims to have won the highly contested polls.

The candidates are Patrick Ducu, Joseph Okoboi Opolot, David Apua Kedi, Louis Opange and the incumbent LC V Chairperson, John Michael Okurut.

George Owule Omoding, the Pallisa District NRM Chairperson, says they arrived at the decision to conduct fresh elections in consultations with the party headquarters in Kampala.

According to Omoding, the previous polls were marred with vote rigging and inflation of poll results, which necessitates a repeat of the entire exercise.

Kyeyune Senyonjo, the Pallisa Resident District Commissioner, says the polls were full of irregularities and false declaration forms.

He says the district security team is on standby to ensure free and fair elections.

John Michael Okurut, the incumbent Pallisa District LC V Chairperson wants the entire election process repeated. He said voting in areas where he has more support was characterised by violence.
