Ntungamo Authorities Close 40 Schools

Justine Mbabazi, the Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner, says some of the affected schools have been operating without license, lacked standard classrooms and dormitories.
Education authorities in Ntungamo district have closed 40 Nursery and primary schools for operating below the minimum standards. The affected schools are found in Rugarama and Nyakyeera sub counties in Ntungamo district. 

They include among others Kyempene parent's school, Karama SDA School, Ngoma Nursery school, Katungamo Nursery PS and St Mary's High school in Ntungamo Municipality.

 

 

Fred Bahati, the Inspector of Schools Ntungamo District, says they decided to crack down on the schools for defying directives from the Education Ministry not to open without putting in place the required facilities.

 

He says some of the schools were operating without toilets facilities while at some of the schools; boys and girls were sharing the facilities.

Justine Mbabazi, the Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner, says some of the affected schools have been operating without license, lacked standard classrooms and dormitories. 

She explains that the schools have one week to put in place the required facilities or else risk permanent closure.

 

Mbabazi says the education team is working closely with her office to ensure that pupils and are not hoodwinked to enroll in insecure schools.
