Ntungamo Chocking on UGX 1 Billion Debt

Ntungamo district local government is choking on debts of more than One Billion since the financial year 2014/15.

This has caused uproar among district councillors who have refused to approve the debts for payments.

The debts accumulated from fuel, vendors, Bank loans and service providers.
Naboth Mpirirwe, the District councillor Ntungamo Sub County says that they don’t know how district incurred the debts.

He says that they have disowned the debts because some of the debts are concocted the challenge the district is facing.

Bernard Mukasa, the District Councillor Ruhaama Sub County, says approving the debts without relevant people being questioned on how the district is incurred the debts and how prepared are they to pay them.

The District Chairperson LC V Denis Singahache says that the debts were incurred out of wage arrears and shortfall of local revenue.

Singahache in a teary voice blamed the district councillors for not paying attention on how the debts can be paid expressing worry on district property.

Alfred Byamukama, the new Deputy Chief Administrative Office, said that the government has promised to support the district by paying the outstanding wage arrears and other debts.
