Ntungamo Councilors Reject UGX 620m Supplementary Budget for Nutrition Project

Ntungamo District councilors have refused to approve the supplementary budget of 620 Million Shillings for the Uganda Multi-sectoral food security and Nutrition Project.

During the council session, District Vice-Chairperson Asuman Kigongo requested the council to approve the budget.  However, councilors led by Denis Muhumuza the councilor Itojo sub-County noted that the details of how the first budget was spent are unclear.

Elijah Atuhaire, the Councilor Rugarama North Sub County, said that approving a supplementary budget on behalf of the Technical Staff, is breaking the finance and accounting regulations governing the council.

Nasser Mukiibi the Chief Administrative Officer pleaded with the councilors to approve the budget noting that failure to approve the supplementary budget could affect the project.

However, the speaker agreed with the councilors and referred the Supplementary budget to the Finance committee for scrutiny.

The major objective of the Uganda Multi-sectoral food security and Nutrition Project is to address the problem of malnutrition in school-going children and women of child-bearing age.

The six-year project worth 10 Billion shillings is funded by the Global Agriculture and Food Security under the supervision of the World Bank. The project which is in 15 districts is being implemented by the ministries of Agriculture, Health, and Education.
