Ntungamo District Council Approves UGX 5bn Supplementary Budget for Salaries

Grace Twinomugisha, the Secretary for Finance told the councilors on Wednesday that the supplementary budget follows a shortfall in the 2022/23 budget arising from the salary enhancement of science teachers that was effected in July 2022.
Ntungamo District Council has approved a supplementary budget of Five Billion Shillings for the payment of wages, pension, and gratuity for the last quarter of the 2022/23 financial year.

The district has arrears for gratuity and Pension for the months of November and December close to over 1 Billion Shillings.

Grace Twinomugisha, the Secretary for Finance told the councilors on Wednesday that the supplementary budget follows a shortfall in the 2022/23 budget arising from the salary enhancement of science teachers that was effected in July 2022.

She said that during the passing of the financial year budget last year in June council had not considered the enhanced salaries.

Denis Muhumuza Savimbi, the district councilor Itojo Sub County rallied the councilors to approve the budget because pensioners had not received their pay for the last month.

Emily Atuhaire, the District Woman councilors Nyabihoko-Rwashamaire Town Council said that the money to pay pensioners should not be diverted.

Samuel Mucunguzi, the LCV Chairperson said that due to shortfalls in the budget, the district will pay all salaries and pension effective this month when the district receives funds.
