A Pineapple juice and wine processing factory in Nyamukana town council is lying idle three years after it was set up.

The factory was set up under the Uganda Industrial Research Institute meant to serve farmers from Mbarara, Sheema and Ntungamo.

Part of the factory has now been turned into offices for Nyamukana town council.  The factory which was expected to start operations way back in 2017 is still under key and lock.

Julius Kanyesigye, a farmer says that the officers later kept quiet and avoided him up to late 2018 when they claimed that the 50 KV transformer at the factory was too small.

He says that the transformer was later replaced with a 500KV but this has not solved the problem as farmers continue to sell off their pineapples at giveaway prices.

Denis Muhumuza Savimbi the LC5 councillor for Nyamukana town council and Itojo Sub County says that the town council authorities decided to use part of the space for the factory as an office until the factory starts operations.

Savimbi says that officials from Uganda Industrial research institute have remained silent.

Cue out:……the whole factory:”//

Savimbi say that unless a deliberate move is taken the save the situation, the factory will continue to be idle as the taxpayers money goes to waste.

Ntungamo LC5 Chairperson Denis Singahache says that the leadership is following up the matter to ensure that the money is not put to waste.
