Old Man Kills Two Minors, Injures One Before Killing Himself

Samson Kasasira, Rwizi regional police spokesperson says the incident occurred on Thursday night when Bahama, 60, attacked the home of Kiryabaho and cut her several times on the head using a panga, leaving her in critical condition and then killing the two children before taking his own life.


A 60-year-old casual worker, Peter Bahama of Rwenfunjo village Rwetango Masha sub-county in Isingiro district has burnt two children to death before killing himself in arson.

The minors have been identified as Joshua Tumushabe 10, and Shallon Nabasa 7. While the injured is Annah Kiryabaho the grandmother of the deceased minors.

Kasasira says Bahama upon thinking that Kiryabaho had died, took her two grandchildren to his house, murdered them, cut himself on the neck and set the house ablaze.

“After killing the minors, Bahama carried them to the house where he cut his neck set the house ablaze, living his body burnt alongside those of the kids, beyond recognition.”

Kasasira says the killer weapon was recovered by the homicide police squad and also managed to retrieve the three bodies which were taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital for postmortem.

Kiryabaho, who is unconscious has also been admitted to Mbarara regional referral hospital where she is nursing injuries sustained from the attack.

Charles Mutsibe, 65, a resident of the same area says they were attracted to the scene by loud noise and fire smoke.

Mutsibe says Bahama has been a calm resident very quiet and all are surprised by his actions.

This is the second murder of the same kind to happen in the same sub-county where two children have been killed.

In August last year, a man killed his two daughters and and assaulted their mother whom he left unconscious before taking his own life.
