More Than 1000 Participate in Empango Run

More than 1000 runners are participating in the 3rd Empango run organised by Bunyoro Kingdom in collaboration with Spice FM, a local Radio station based in Hoima town.

The Omukama of Bunyoro Kingdom, Solomon Gafabusa flagged the runners for the 10.5 kilometer run this morning at Karuziika palace in Hoima town.

The marathon is part of the activities to commemorate the 24th coronation of the Omukama scheduled for June 11th at Karukuzi palace under the theme “Transforming Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom”.

Speaking to URN shortly after flagging off the runners, the Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kingdom, Andrew Byakutaga, said the Kingdom has achieved its target for this year's Empango. 

He urged the Banyoro to always participate in such events to improve on their physical fitness and interact for unity. He applauds the kingdom subjects for being supportive, loving and caring for the kingdom.

Other activities include the free health camp that where residents will undergo free cancer free cancer screening and HIV/AIDS testing and counseling among others.

Leonard Kusemererwa, the Chairman of Empango run, says they have already purchased the 3D Ultra Sound Fetal Doppler machine at Shillings 19.5 million from the proceeds of the run.

In 2016, proceeds from the run were used to buy two oxygen concentrators for Hoima and Masindi hospitals.  Proceeds from last year's run, were used to purchase ten beds for maternity wards at Kagadi General Hospital.
