The Nakasongola District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Patience Namara told URN that one unidentified person believed to be a Congolese National died on spot whereas 13 others sustained serious injuries.
One person
has been killed and 13 others critically injured in an accident involving a bus
belonging to KK Travelers and another from HMK Company along Kampala-Gulu
highway. The
accident occurred around 1:45am this morning at Bujabi village near River Kafu
in Nakasongola district along Kampala-Gulu highway.
The accident occurred when
the KK Traveler’s Bus registration number UBD 634H destined for Kitgum collided
head on with the bus belonging to HMK Company registration number UAL 781U enroute to Kampala. The Nakasongola District Police Commander,
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Patience Namara told URN that one unidentified person believed to be a Congolese National died on spot whereas 13
others sustained serious injuries.
Namara says 12 of the injured victims were
rushed to Kiryandongo hospital whereas one survivor was taken to Nakasongola
Health Center IV for treatment. He says Police is in process of identifying the
deceased and the survivors. She blames the accident on the driver of KK
Travellers bus whom she accuses of engaging in reckless driving at night.
Sam
Musaazi, a resident says a survivor told them that the driver of the KK Traveller’s
Bus hit the HMK bus when while attempting to over a lorry. The wreckage of the
two buses has been removed from the road to clear traffic. There are fears that accidents may increase
along Kampala-Gulu highway as we head towards the Christmas season unless
deliberate efforts are taken to prevent accidents.
On
November 2, 2019, six people were killed and 22 others seriously injured in an accident
on the Kampala Gulu highway involving KK traveler’s bus and two other vehicles.
The accident occurred at Cuny-Odyek swamp in Diima parish in Mutunda Sub-county
in Kiryandongo district.
It was reported that KK Traveler’s bus
registration number UAN 901J heading to Koboko from Kampala tried to overtake an
army lorry registration number H4 DF 831 and rammed into an oncoming Nile
star coach registration number UBF 621T and overturned several times.
In September this year, an accident involving a
bus belonging to Robyln Coaches registration number UAQ 643W destined for
Kitgum rammed into a stationary tipper truck registration number UAH 001Y at
Wabigalo trading center in Nakasongola ripping off some parts, killing five of
its own occupants on spot and left nine others critically injured.
