One person has died following
violent clashes at Kisembi Mosque in Katabi Town Council in Entebbe
municipality on Monday evening. Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala
Metropolitan Police Spokesperson identifies the deceased as Kiggundu Ahmed, 58. According to Owoyesigyire, Kiggundu succumbed
to injuries he sustained in the clash at the mosque shortly after being
admitted at Meditech Health Center in Nkumba Bufulu.
Owoyesigyire explains that a
conflict erupted at a mosque at approximately 9 p.m. regarding the management of the
mosque. “In the midst of this altercation, Mr. Kiggundu Ahmed, 58, was brutally
assaulted by individuals known to him. Miraculously, Mr. Ahmed managed to
escape and promptly sought refuge at Kasenyi Police Station, where he filed a
case and named some of his attackers,” he said in a statement.
He explained that after realizing
the gravity of his injuries, Kiggundu was swiftly transferred to Meditech
Health Center in Nkumba Bufulu. “Tragically,
despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries shortly
after arrival. His remains have been transported to City Mortuary Mulago,
pending a thorough postmortem examination,” he said. Owoyesigyire says that
four suspects are in custody at Entebbe Police Station in connection to the
incident.
“We assure the public that no stone will be left unturned during this
investigation. We, as the territorial Police at Kampala Metropolitan,
vehemently condemn such acts of violence and unrest within our communities. Our
commitment to justice is unwavering, and we will ensure that those responsible
for this heinous crime are brought to justice,” he said.
He promised to provide
more details about the incident as the investigation progresses and extended
his deepest condolences to the family and friends of Kiggundu during this
difficult time.
