One Dead, Two Injured As Fuel Tanker Bursts in Flames in Rukungiri

The tanker Mitsubishi Fuso registration number UAT 055G was on Tuesday heading to Kihihi town from Kampala to supply fuel to Stabex Kihihi branch in Kanungu district.

One person died and two others were critically injured after a fuel tanker burst into flames. The accident occurred on Tuesday in Bugangari sub-county, Rukungiri district along the Rukungiri-Kihihi-Kanungu road.  

The tanker Mitsubishi Fuso registration number UAT 055G was on Tuesday heading to Kihihi town from Kampala to supply fuel to Stabex Kihihi branch in Kanungu district.  On reaching Bagahwe Trading Centre in the Bugangari sub-county, the driver failed to negotiate a corner.   The truck lost control, rolled and burst into flames.    

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Police Spokesperson said that the Manager of Stabex fuel station Kihihi branch Abdullah Harman, 32, who was in the truck was burnt to death. 

Maate also says that the driver Qurash Mayengo, 35, a resident of Mbarara City and the turnboy BrianKiprimo,27, a Kenyan national were critically injured and rushed to Nyakibale Hospital in Rukungiri town and later referred to Mulago Hospital. 

Maate attributes the accident to overspeeding by the driver.
