A group of about seven warriors from Kotido district on Friday night raided 41 heads of cattle from a kraal in Apeitolim
A suspected Jie warrior has been shot dead in Apeitolim in Napak
district during a gunfire exchange with the UPDF following a raid.
A group of about seven warriors from Kotido district on Friday night
raided 41 heads of cattle from a kraal in Apeitolim but the UPDF
ground forces recovered all the cows and
killed one of the cattle rustlers.
The warriors reportedly scattered in disarray but one was shot dead. A
bow and arrows were recovered from the warrior.
In a separate incident, at least 150 heads of cattle were stolen on Friday
night in a raid by suspected Matheniko from Moroto district. The cattle were
stolen from Naronit village, Lotome Sub County in the same Napak District.
The UPDF 3rd Division Spokesperson, Edrin Mawanda says UPDF
forces and police are tracking the footmarks.
Despite the ongoing disarmament, warriors from the general areas
of Moroto, Kotido and Kaabong have not yet ceased raids and other forms of
criminality, including extrajudicial killings against civilians they suspect to
be collaborators of security agencies.
The joint forces of UPDF and Police have so far recovered 70 guns
and 534 rounds of ammunition from the Karimojong warriors since July when they
launched the second phase of disarmament in the sub-region.
