One Killed, 12 Injured in Karuma-Pakwach Highway Accident

The incident happened on Saturday at 7:30 pm around Murchison Falls National Park in Purongo Sub-County along the Karuma-Pakwach Highway.

One person died and 12 others were injured in an accident in Nwoya District.

The incident happened on Saturday at 7:30 pm around Murchison Falls National Park in Purongo Sub-County along the Karuma-Pakwach Highway. This is after a Hiace Taxi registration number UBG 613AT they were travelling in veered off the road and fell into a trench after a tyre burst.

The deceased has been identified as Aaron Ocungu, aged 16 years.  Five survivors who include Norman Wacmungu aged 7, Gerald Rwotomiya, 11, Jovina Amirwot aged 12, Stephen Sande, 17 and one, only identified as 4-year-old Ladwoni sustained injuries of different degrees.

Others are Monica Alokonimungu aged 20; Evelyn Amiya, 21, Rose Akumu aged 50, Grace Apwoyocan aged 50 and Ratif Odoch, also 50 years old.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson told URN that the deceased died shortly on the way while being rushed to Anaka Government Hospital for treatment.

According to Okema, the driver of the taxi is still on run while the injured were rushed to Anaka Hospital.
