One Dead, Three Injured in Mabira Accident

A Kampala bound numberless trailer was reportedly overtaking a cement loaded truck registration number UAS 758F when it collided with a Jinja bound FUSO number UAQ 591. The Fuso swerved and overturned, causing a traffic gridlock along the highway for more than an hour.

One person has been confirmed dead and three others injured in an accident that occurred this morning in Mabira Forest along the Kampala-Jinja highway.

A Kampala bound numberless trailer was reportedly overtaking a cement loaded truck registration number UAS 758F when it collided with a Jinja bound FUSO number UAQ 591.  The Fuso swerved and overturned, causing a traffic gridlock along the highway for more than an hour.

Particulars of the deceased are still scanty. But URN has learnt that he was an occupant of the FUSO truck which was carrying maize to Jinja. The other victims were identified as Micheal Odoi, the driver of the FUSO, Alamanzani Mwase, the driver of the second truck and Hajji Nsamba, a resident of Namawojjolo in Buikwe district. They are all admitted to Kawolo Hospital in Lugazi municipality.

Mwase said the numberless trailer was overtaking at the wrong spot.

Sezzibwa Region Traffic Officer ASP Isreal Wambesyo confirmed the accident but advised road users to be cautious while on the road, especially along major highways in order to avoid bloodshed.

One resident who was only identified as Moses said the lack of equipment affected efforts to save the life that was lost in the accident. He said survivors were only using an axe to break the wreckage of the car in which the victim was stuck.

By the time of filing this report, police were still battling residents from neighboring villages, who were collecting maize from one of the trucks.
