Opposition legislators have tasked Police to give a detailed account on what transpired in Arua municipality on Monday night, saying the state response in insufficient.

Several legislators and 34 civilians were picked up by the Special Forces Command for allegedly obstructing the president's convoy and pelting it with stones as he was returning from the last campaign rally of Nusura Tiperu, the NRM candidate at Boma grounds.

They include the Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, Ntungamo Municipality MP, Gerald Karuhanga, Jinja East MP, Paul Mwiru, Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zaake, Arua Municipality MP elect, Kasiano Wadri and former Makindye East MP, Michael Mabike.

Bobi Wine's driver, Yasin Kawuma was killed and several others injured during the clash that saw officers from the Special Forces Command open fire at the opposition supporters.

All the suspects with the exception of Bobi Wine and Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zaake appeared before Francis Matenga Dawa, Gulu Chief Magistrate for treason this afternoon and were remanded to Gulu prison until August 30th when their matter will come up for mention.

Bobi Wine was arraigned in the UPDF General Court Martial a few hours later for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and was airlifted to Makindye Military Barracks.

It is unclear when Zzake who is said to be in critical condition at Gulu Military hospital will appear in court. Opposition legislators led by the newly appointed Leader of the Opposition, Betty Aol Ochan have called for the unconditional release of the MPs and an official statement from the Police Chief.

Roland Mugume, the Rukungiri Municipality Member of parliament, says the Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola, should make a personal statement detailing how the events in Arua unfolded.

According to Mugume, both the statements issued by Government and police on the incident so far are sketchy. He says they need an account of the hospital where Zzake is admitted and how Bobi Wine's driver, Yasin Kawuma was killed.
