Pader council orders for speedy distribution of IDP sheets

Pader district council is concerned about the delay in the distribution of iron sheets government donated to the Internally Displaced Persons.

Lilly Apio Odongkara, the Pader district Deputy Speaker says council is concerned that the process is taking too long. The iron sheets were delivered to the district way back in 2006.

Apio says the district council has resolved that the process be accelerated so that the iron sheets meet their intended purpose of helping the former IDP establish better homes.

Charles Kuria, the deputy Resident District Commissioner Pader blames the delay in the distribution exercise on the IDPs. He says the IDPS are taking long to erect the walls of the houses on which the iron sheets are to be used for roofing.

He says the district disaster management committee has agreed that beneficiaries of the iron sheets should be IDPs who have erected walls and are ready to roof.

Kuria also says presently most of the IDPs are busy harvesting their crops. He however says the distribution exercise could kick off this week.
