Parents with children in Obule Primary School have rejected a head teacher who had been facing defilement charges but has now been released from police custody.

Obule Primary School is located in Asuret sub-county, Soroti district.

Obule Primary School head teacher Gabriel Esone (59) was arrested on July 1, 2014 for allegedly defiling a 16 year old girl from the school.

Uganda Radio Network has learned that Esone was released on police bond on July 4 after he reportedly reached an agreement with the victim's father.

The victim's father is Martin Epila (48), the area LC 1. He is also the School Management Committee chairperson.

Epila reportedly made a statement with the police that he no longer had interest in pursuing the case against Esone.

Our reporter visited the Resident State Attorney who declined to comment but only showed our reporter the additional statement filed by the father of the victim expressing no interest to continue with the case.

Charles Etwalu, the vice chairperson School Management Committee told URN that, they sat in an emergency meeting and resolved to reject the head teacher.

Etwalu stated that parents unanimously rejected Esone who had reported back to school to continue serving in the same school where he had committed the offence.

Etwalu told URN that he personally delivered the letters to Centre Coordinating Tutor for Asuret Sub-County, Education office, Chief Administrative Office and to the office of the district chairperson Soroti.

But Everest Okello, the District Education Officer Soroti expressed ignorance of the letter.

George Albert Omoding, the Centre Coordinating Tutor for Asuret Sub-County, confirmed receipt of the letter.

Omoding pointed out that the role to transfer teachers and head teachers lies with the education officer and the chief administrative officer.

Juma Hassan Nyene, the police spokesperson East Kyoga, told our reporter that the Resident State Attorney (RSA) instructed the police to release the suspect while investigations continue.

Nyene added that, the police had forwarded the file to RSA for advice.
