Parliament has rejected a supplementary budget of 117 billion Shillings tabled by government for construction of roads.

Finance Minister, Matia Kasaija this afternoon tabled the budget before Parliament, seeking approval to withdraw the funds from the Petroleum Fund and allocate it to Uganda National Roads Authority for the construction of roads in the Bunyoro oil production area.

Kasaija, in his justification, explained that the construction of roads in the oil region will go a long way in fast tracking road construction by 2019 in anticipation of oil production in 2020.

Cue Out: ...straightforward matter"//

However, the request drew protests from a number of legislators including the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga who stated that this requires parliamentary scrutiny and must be handled by the Budget committee.

//Cue In: "You want to withdraw...

Cue Out: ...report back"//

Bugweri County MP Abdu Katuntu and Roland Mugume, the Rukungiri Municipality MP demanded that government requests for the supplementary budget using the Appropriations Act and not for only the roads sector.

//Cue In: "You need to...

Cue Out: ...sector budget"//

The Speaker has directed the minister to go back and correct the legal loopholes before re-tabling the request.
