A pastor and his follower have drowned in a dam in Iganga district during baptism. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at Nakalama village in Nakalama sub county in Iganga district. The deceased have been identified as Wilber Mukisa, the pastor of Redeemed Gospel Church in Bukoona village and Farida Mugolofa.

Sadat Bazibu, an eye witness, says all was well until Pastor Mukisa entered the dam, which belongs to Mugoya Construction Company Limited together with Pastor Joseph Akwasibwe from Kampala to baptize Mugolofa. He says Pastor Mukisa and Mugolofa drowned after they were hit by a strong wave while Akwasibwe managed to swim to safety.

Over 200 followers who had come to witness the baptism ceremony watched helplessly as the duo tried to swim to safety in vain. Herbert Nuwagaba, the Iganga District Police Commander has confirmed the incident saying investigations are ongoing.

He says police are holding Akwasibwe to help with the investigations about the incident. By the time of filing this story, Police had only recovered Mugolofa’s body. At least seven born again Christians have drowned in the same dam during baptism over the past two years.
