The business community in Kigoogwa town is counting losses after a
fuel tanker overturned and caught fire, destroying shops and merchandise.
The accident occurred when a fuel tank registration number UAM 292Q, from Kampala heading to Gulu
overturned and caught fire in Kigoogwa town along Kampala Gulu highway. The tanker burst, and fuel spilt into trenches before it ignited, leading to the deadly fire which spread into shops and buildings burning them down.
Four buildings housing nine shops were destroyed in the
blaze and property worth millions of shillings was lost.
By Thursday, the number of people who perished in the fire had risen to 17 persons and 21 people remained hospitalized at Kiruddu Hospital.
