The body of the Apac district former chairman Nicholas
Opio Bunga was on Friday laid to rest.
Opio Bunga, famous with his name “Atedero” literally meaning
for the common man, died on Wednesday last week at Lira Regional Referral
hospital due to heart complications.
Opio, who died at 82, served as Apac district LCV
chairman from 2007 to 2011 after winning the by- election under Uganda People’s
Congress party-UPC.
He replaced the then district chairman Rtd. Charles
Okello-Engola Macodwogo, now the state minister Gender, Labour and Social
Development who had resigned to run for
the chairmanship after Oyam district was curved from Apac.
He also served as the district service commission chairperson
of Apac District from 2015 to 2018. He was a lecturer at Kyambogo University
and equally served as the chairperson stirring committee of Lira University among
others key jobs.
His body was laid to rest on Friday at his
ancestral home in Akoremor village, Banya parish in Inomo sub-county, Kwania
