On Friday, government launched Uganda Prisons Farm to boost cotton production and revive the textile industry in the country. The farm sits on 7,200 acres of land and is located in Tikao village, Gule Village Orom Sub County.  

  It produced 500 acres of cotton last season. Johnson Byabashaija, the Commissioner General Prison Services, says that the farm is the biggest in the country and dwells on the 430 male convicted inmates as its major source of labor force. 

  Mario Kania Obiga, the Minister for Internal Affairs says the production of cotton that was once a mandatory cash crop in the 1950`s as enforced by the colonialist drastically reduced from 470,000 bales in 1950 to 70, 000 bales by 2010. URN visited the farm and brings you the story in pictures.
