On February 15, 2025, thousands of people gathered to celebrate the life of Lt. Gen Bazilo Olara Okello at his ancestral land in Madi Opei from Lamwo District. The late Bazilo played a key role in toppling Amin's government, which later saw him rise to Lt. General.
After the fall of Amin's Government that brought Dr. Milton Obote to power for the second time, Bazilo remained frustrated by the lack of accountability in Obote's regime. On July 27, 1985, he led a coup and toppled Obote's Government where he remained the President for two days before handing power to Gen Tito Okello Lutwa.
He was the Chief of Staff and commanded the army until President Museveni toppled them from power where he fled to exile in Sudan where he died from. Uganda Radio Network now brings you his memorial prayer in pictures.
