Kisiima I Island, located in the southern division of Jinja city is home to 1600 people who largely survive on commercial farming. The island is however threatened with the rising water levels in Lake Victoria.
Residents who have lived in Kisiima I for the past 30 years claim that the island which measured about 200 acres in the early 1990s now remains with only 45 acres. Residents are now calling on government agencies to relocate them to safer areas.
