Police and Locals Retrieve Body of Fisherman from Lake Kyoga

The deceased has been identified as Charles Okurut, 21, a fisherman attached to Omunwo landing site in Obwanai parish, Apopong Sub County.

The Police inconjuction with locals have finally ended a long search after recovering the body of a fisherman who drowned on Tuesday night in Lake Kyoga, in Pallisa district   

The deceased has been identified as Charles Okurut, 21, a fisherman attached to Omunwo landing site in Obwanai parish, Apopong Sub County.   

Immaculate Alaso, the Police Spokesperson for Bukedi North Region confirmed that on November 23 2021 at about 1700hrs, the deceased together with a survivor James Omule, 20, set off from their homes and went fishing.   

Alaso said that at around midnight, the winds started blowing heavily while the fishermen were far in the the lake, leading their boat to capsize.   

‘’The duo tried swimming while calling for rescue, unfortunately, Okurut drowned and died,' Alaso said.   

She cautioned fishermen to avoid going to the lake especially when the weather is not friendly adding that police will continue carrying out sensitization especially on water safety as the festive season draws near.

The deceased body has been conveyed to Pallisa Hospital for postmortem before handing over to the relatives for burial.
