Police in Hoima are holding a man believed to be the prime suspect in the disappearance of Adam Kairu, a special hire car driver five month ago.
The suspect is Amos Kankya, a resident of Kaseta Village of Kyabigambire Sub County in Hoima.
Kankya was picked up on Friday by operatives from the Rapid Response Unity from Nabingo in Kampala and transferred back to Hoima.
On March 03, 2010 three men including Kankya approached Kairu at his home in Kyarwabuyamba village in Hoima municipality to transport a patient to Hoima Hospital.
But since then, Kairu has never been seen alive. His car was discovered abandoned in Kyengera two months after his disappearance.
Ramadhan Doka, Hoima District Criminal Investigations Officer says that Kankya was positively identified by one of the widow's of the late Kairu.
He says that on top of being a prime suspect in the murder of Kairu, Kankya has been on the police list of most wanted for car and motorcycle thefts.
Doka says that during the arrest, RRU operatives recovered a gun from Kankya that is believed to have been used to stage robberies.
He says that they are still searching for a second that Kankya and his group have been using to terrorize Hoima residents.
Doka says that the suspect will be charged with kidnap with intent to murder.
Safian Baligonzaki, Kairu\'s elder brother says all they want is Kankya to produce their sibling or else the law should take its course.
