Police Blocks Music Promoters’ Meeting

The Police on Friday blocked a meeting organized by events and music promoters Abbey Musinguzi and Andrew Mukasa.

Musinguzi of Abitex promotions and Mukasa of Bajjo events had invited artists, promoters and comedians for a meeting at Calendar Prestige Hotel in Makindye. The meeting was meant to discuss plans of resuming music shows.

However, when they reached the venue, they were blocked from accessing the premises by the police who had sealed off the venue.

The Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owesigire said that the organizers had not informed police about the meeting.

Balaam Ddamulira of Jojo events questioned why the President doesn’t allow concerts and events to resume yet Kikuubo market is overcrowded and people risk contracting COVID-19.

Jjuuko Derro commonly known as Deo Promoter decries the losses he incurred due to cancellation of three of his concerts during the lockdown. However, he says that they are ready to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.

Musinguzi said that they have given an ultimatum of 24 days to the government to allow music concerts and other events.

In March, President Museveni announced a ban on large public gatherings in a bid to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
