Besigye was hosted for a political talk show on Nbsfm, however, his supporters surrounded the radio station, chanting praises for him, bringing business to a standstill for close to two hours along Nizam road
The police in Jinja have dispersed supporters of former Forum for
Democratic Change (FDC) President, Dr Kiiza
Besigye who stormed Nbsfm demanding he addresses them.
Besigye was hosted for a political talk show on Nbsfm. However, his supporters
surrounded the radio station, chanting praises for him, bringing business to a
standstill along Nizam road for close to two hours.
Police was forced to use teargas and live bullets to quell
Besigye’s supporters who were leading processions on streets of Jinja town.
Rashid Mwidhu, the FDC party mobilizer says that they were just
showing support for Dr Besigye and there
was no need for police interruption.
//Cue in: “police…
Cue out…waiffe,”.
Besigye who spoke to journalists after the talk show says that, FDC is running
a countrywide campaign against propagandists who relate him with the NRM
government.
He adds that the campaign will comprise
of radio talk shows and public sensitization meetings where FDC members shall
be equipped with mobilization skills so as to build grass root support for the
party.
//Cue in: “it’s really an
insult…
Cue out…propagating that story,”
Besigye was later on escorted by a police patrol vehicle on his
way out of Jinja town.
The Jinja Resident District Commissioner, Eric Sakwa says that Besigye’s supporters were creating chaos
and police only intervened to ensure law and order.
