The Territorial Police in Tororo District is investigating an attempted robbery that occurred around midnight on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Uganda Baati Factory/Store in Bison A Cell, Western Division. Bukedi South police spokesperson, Johnson Moses Mugwe, confirmed that the incident was reported by Martin Olugu, Security Supervisor at Uganda Baati’s Tororo Branch, located in Agururu A2 Cell, Central Ward.
Mugwe identified the suspect as 21-year-old Bruno Obwona, a peasant farmer residing in Agururu A2 Cell, Western Division, Tororo Municipality. According to Mugwe, "It’s alleged that on Monday night, around midnight, four men jumped over the perimeter wall fence of the Uganda Baati Factory/Store. A security guard noticed one of them carrying iron sheets, prompting him to fire a warning shot into the air, followed by a second shot directed at one of the suspects, who sustained an injury to his stomach and collapsed."
The guard’s quick response caused the other suspects to flee immediately. Mugwe added that, during the incident, "The security guard faced a confrontation with one suspect armed with a panga, who attempted to attack him. The guard managed to defend himself, though the panga cut the gun, damaging the butt and upper wooden handguard."
The injured suspect, later identified as Bruno Obwona, was found lying in a pool of blood on the Uganda Baati premises and was rushed to Tororo General Hospital for treatment. Obwona disclosed that he was part of a group of four involved in the attempted theft. Police recovered four pieces of iron sheets near the suspect, which have been kept as exhibits as investigations continue.
