Police Investigate Killing of Two Motorcyclists in Mayuge

The dead have been identified as 33-year-old Matthew Muhereza and 40-year-old Yunus Mateeka, both residents of Kitovu village in Imanyiro sub-county, Mayuge district.
Police in Busoga East are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two motorcyclists whose bodies were discovered in a wetland in Mayuge district. The dead have been identified as 33-year-old Matthew Muhereza and 40-year-old Yunus Mateeka, both residents of Kitovu village in Imanyiro sub-county, Mayuge district.

They were reported missing during the night of Tuesday. Their lifeless bodies were found in Kitovu wetland on Wednesday evening after rice farmers noticed the decomposing remains in their fields. The bodies were dismembered before being dumped in the rice gardens, which are adjacent to the main road leading to the Imanyiro trading center. The perpetrators also made off with the victims' motorcycles registration numbers UET 145H and UFQ 691D.

Samson Mutebi, one of the area residents noted that motorcycle thefts have become a prevalent issue in their village, leading to unemployment among many motorcyclists. He called for increased police foot patrols in the area to deter criminals who operate during the night. Diana Nandawula, the Busoga East police spokesperson, says that a team of detectives and scene of crime officers has been tasked to search for the assailants, who are believed to be hiding within Mayuge district.
