Savannah police have named the police constable who passed on following an attack by unknown assailants at a roadblock along the Kampala-Gulu highway on Monday afternoon. Ignatius Otong, the Savanah Regional Police Commander has identified the deceased as Police Constable Ronald Busingye while his injured colleague is constable Joseph Twinamatsiko.

The deceased's body is lying in the mortuary at Luwero hospital while Twinamatsiko is receiving treatment at the same facility. The two officers sustained injuries when four machete-wielding thugs stormed the roadblock at Kiwumpa village about five kilometers to Luwero town council along Kampala –Gulu highway around 12:30 pm Monday.

The thugs stabbed the dou and made off with their guns. Edward Ssimbwa, the LC 3 chairperson of Luwero sub county explains that the attackers parked their vehicle at a nearby school about a kilometer away from the scene and walked through bushes to the checkpoint. Ssimbwa says that the attackers emerged from the bushes and stabbed the two armed constables, robbed their guns, and vanished from the scene.

He says that thereafter the assailants torched a truck laden with maize that was parked near the checkpoint after breaking down a day before the attack. Ssimbwa says that the assailants later jumped into their vehicle and disappeared with two guns.

On July 9th, 2022, three assailants shot dead the former acting Bukwo Chief Administrative Robert  Charles Ogwang at Kiryowa village a few kilometers after Matugga along the Kampala-Gulu highway. The assailants shot the fuel tank of the deceased's vehicle thus setting it ablaze.

So far seven suspects have been arrested in connection to Ogwang’s murder. By the time Ogwang was killed, travelers had raised the alarm about the men in uniform that stage fake roadblocks and rob them.
